In 2020, Cognition teamed up with Climate Care to offset our total annual emissions and becoming Carbon Neutral for the first time. In the same year, the company committed to stay proactive, adopting and developing more sustainable remediation methodologies, selection of materials and energy sources we use, reducing the need for offset element of our emissions. Our long-term goal is to continue improving efficiency and minimise emissions from our routine site and office operations across the board.

Responding to the UK's Soil Crisis

4 November 2022

We seem to be overwhelmed with crises these days - climate, cost-of-living, energy. But in our industry, we also have our very own crisis - the UK Soil Crisis!

This is why the Sustainability Sub-Group of the Contaminated Land Working Group of the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (now that's a mouthful), has worked with CL:AIRE and University of Plymouth to produce the lead article in this month's AGS Magazine (page 18 - 24) to raise awareness and continue the debate around Sustainable Soil Management and the Future of Soil Use. The SSG would like to extend our thanks to Nicholas Willenbrock at CL:AIRE and Prof Mark Fitzsimons at University of Plymouth for producing the article and raising lots of food for thought.

Interesting update on the application of DoWCoP at landfill sites in the same edition! https://issuu.com/ags-magazine/docs/ags-magazine-october-november-2022

Our Technical Director, Andy O’Dea, is the Chair of the Sustainability Sub-Group of the Contaminated Land Working Group of the AGS. Please get in touch (andy.odea@cognitionltd.com) if you have any queries or need advice around the topic of soil reuse.
