Rob has worked in the fields of Construction, Demolition, and Land Remediation for over 12 years. He has experience in both Foundation and Drainage Design and has managed small build projects from design phase through to completion. As a trained Geologist, Rob is involved in delivering site investigations and contaminated land investigations. He was originally employed as a Senior Site Chemist and has, throughout his time with Cognition, moved up to manage a number of remediation projects as a Project Manager, having gained experience in a wide range of remediation techniques including Stabilisation, Oxidation, Bioremediation, and Groundwater Treatment. In 2019, Rob became a Director of Cognition.
Throughout over 12 years of Remediation experience, Charlie has performed many key roles in several of Cognition's high-profile projects. Involved in the planning and delivery of remediation projects, Charlie is responsible for liaising with local authorities and regulatory bodies to agree mobile treatment licenses and producing waste management plans conforming to the CL:AIRE code of practice, and remediation strategy documentation required for works to commence. Charlie appraises and develops schedules of quality assurance testing required for remediation projects to ensure that works conducted on site meet the designed specifications.
Richard set up Cognition Land and Water in 2005 having worked as a Civil Engineer for AMEC and Nuttalls on major projects such as the Millenium Dome. With more than 30 years in the industry he has gained a wealth of experience in engineering and remediation. With established relationships with Main Contractors, Developers, Consultants and Government Organisations, Richard has shaped and developed the company to meet the ever-changing demands of our clients.

Jon has more than 30 years experience working in a range of environmental fields including Contaminated Land Investigation, Remediation and Environmental Monitoring as a Regulator, Consultant and Contractor. As Technical Manager with the Environmental Agency, Jon managed one of the largest environmental projects in the UK, The Thames Tideway Tunnels Project, from concept design to government approval. Jon has also developed and managed an international project on Passive Chemical Monitoring with partners in Europe, US and Australia.
As the Operations Director for Cognition Land and Water, Jon specialises in Contaminated Land Remediation, where he has developed remediation strategies and managed numerous projects for housing developers, local authorities and industries, including the nuclear industry.

Tom brings over 30 years of experience and has completed major Remediation, Road Construction and Civil Engineering worth in excess of £500 million. Tom has previously worked for main contractors on Argent Kings Cross, the Channel Tunnel and the Greenwich Peninsula projects and has grown three successful businesses from scratch. He has a wealth of knowledge across the industry, including taking projects from the planning stages through to construction phase. He is also a team player who has a reputation for consistently delivering the highest possible standards for all projects on which he has been involved. He has never left a project until it has been completed and is well known for his enthusiasm, commitment and professionalism.
Andy O’Dea has 27 years’ experience in Geoenvironmental & Geotechnical Engineering on sustainable land development and infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally with major consultancies. He has managed and delivered many specialist geoenvironmental and geotechnical projects and large and complicated multidisciplinary land development projects. Andy has extensive experience of Contamination Risk Assessment, Waste Management, Ground Gas Risk Assessment, Sustainability Assessment, Earthworks Specification, Geotechnical Design and EIA.
Andy has held several director roles in the past and, as Technical Director at Cognition, he oversees the technical department. He also assists with project direction, client care, business development and supporting the professional development of the team.
Ryan is a finance professional with over 15 years experience in financial services and accounting. Since training as a chartered accountant with PriceWaterHouse Coopers, Ryan has worked with a number of SME’s both in the UK and globally. With a focus and passion for driving controlled growth in SME’s, his role is to work on strategic initiatives whilst driving efficiencies in core systems, back office processes and financial reporting.
A civil Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the civil engineering construction industry working for a major Tier 1 contractor, initially delivering complex heavy civil engineering projects as Project Manager, and latterly providing technical, engineering and risk assurance support to tenders and projects as Engineering Manager.
At Cognition as Bid & Precontract Manager, Wayne brings extensive technical and engineering knowledge to support our work winning function while adopting major contractor practices in key areas of governance and quality within the bid management process.
Suzi has considerable experience in Recruitment. Having gained a Degree in Business and HR she worked her way up to Director of a highly regarded Professional Recruitment Consultancy. Her role is to advise and implement Recruitment and HR strategy as well as leading key projects with the Senior Management Team.
Tomaz has 15+ years’ experience in environmental and sustainability management, project management, coordination and consultancy work. Tomaz is responsible for overseeing Cognition’s environmental performance, developing, implementing and monitoring sustainable environmental strategies and EMS management. Tomaz advises the board of directors on delivery of impact reduction strategies, implementing environmental policies and practices, liaising with regulatory bodies, monitoring environmental performance, implementing strategies and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.
Jake is key to promoting and improving Cognition’s Health, Safety and Welfare standards. Jake and his team are embedded within all Cognition projects and involved in pre-planning and delivery of H&S, including conducting inspections and audits of sites and operations and advising clients on safe practice on interface works. Jake liaises with other management leads, particularly the Environment Management Team, to ensure company policies are integrated.
