Cognition Land and Water is delighted to have attended an industry outreach day at Worcester Sixth Form College. Promoted by the AGS, the event aimed to inform students about geology and related industries, encouraging them to consider these career paths.
Our Technical Director, Andy O’Dea, was really impressed by the enthusiasm and curiosity demonstrated by the students from a number of local schools and colleges, who asked some very insightful deep-dive questions about careers in construction. Andy said, “There must have been about 60 students at the event and the level of interest and inquisitiveness on show was impressive. I really just wanted to get across to these 6th form geology students that, whatever direction they decide to go in after school, there is a broad range of fascinating and rewarding career options to pursue in geology and related subjects. Construction is just one of those”.
Apart from information stands hosted by various consultants, laboratories, universities and contractors, there were also a number of lectures and activity sessions on subjects as diverse as Microscopes, Mineral Exploration and Engineering Geology.
Attendance and support of events like this aligns well with Cognition’s drive to deliver Social Value. We are currently in the process of preparing our Social Value Strategy, which will set out ambitious goals for Cognition and tools to demonstrate we are delivering on our promises to ‘give back’ to the communities in which we work. We were also pleased to be able to offer financial support subsidising the travel costs for the event.
