Yesterday we revealed one of the three categories Cognition Land and Water is shortlisted in for The Consultancy and Engineering Awards 2024, now it is time to announce the second!
Cognition Land and Water is shortlisted in the Best Sustainability Project category for Consultancy and Engineering Awards 2024. The award recognises a sustainable project or initiatives that promote environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. It celebrates innovative projects that significantly reduce environmental impact, enhance energy efficiency, and contribute to a sustainable future.
The project we submitted for this award entry was completed on behalf of the City of London Corporation. Cognition undertook the decommissioning and infilling of a 19.1 km redundant gas pipeline to Barking Power Station in just 13 weeks, achieving significant sustainability gains. For example, Cognition designed a novel and sustainable grout mix, which reduced the embedded carbon by 71% compared to the baseline specification of Lightweight Cellular (foamed) concrete, saving 3,219 tons of CO2e. The many specification, operational and design features brought to the project by Cognition resulted in a greatly reduced carbon footprint, far fewer vehicle emissions, increased use of industry byproducts and reinforcement of the goals of a circular economy.
As a carbon neutral company since 2021, Cognition strives to provide sustainable, innovative and ethically responsible service to all our clients, so we are so proud to be nominated for Best Sustainability Project. Until the results are announced at the award ceremony in London on Thursday 30 January, we will keep our fingers crossed!
Well done to everyone at Cognition who worked on the Barking Power Station decommissioning and infilling project. It is thanks to all your hard work that we are nominated for this award!
