The presentation ceremony for The International Green Apple Environment Awards 2024 will take place on Monday (November 18th) at Kensington Palace, London.
Cognition Land and Water has won three International Green Apple Environment Awards this year; with the ceremony close at hand, we would like to take this opportunity to showcase the three projects that have won these awards because of their commitment to environmental stewardship.
First up, we have a project Cognition completed on behalf of Enfield Council and Taylor Woodrow. Cognition removed over 10,828m3 of fly tipped and historic illegally dumped waste from the Edmonton Marshes area of Enfield. The waste posed a risk to humans, wildlife and the wider environment and was located in close proximity to major tributary rivers into the River Thames.
Our scope of works included the segregation, removal, and disposal of all waste within the site boundary including any hazardous waste encountered. We used various techniques, following the waste hierarchy, to segregate the waste on site prior to disposal to minimise quantities going to landfill and maximise the quantity going to recovery, re-use or recycling, achieving an 81% diversion from landfill by weight. We also took care to manage and monitor environmental nuisances such as asbestos fibre release, odour, dust and noise throughout the works.
We are so proud that all the hard work displayed by the project team has been recognised through this award!
