We’re delighted to announce a major milestone for the Meridian Water project! Huge congratulations to the project team, with special recognition to Tom Whatling (Environmental and Sustainability Lead at Taylor Woodrow), Sarah Owen and her team at Waterman Infrastructure & Environment, for successfully securing the Deposit for Recovery Environmental Permit.
This permit is required for the processing of waste materials and the relocation of a former landfill within the site, enabling the next phase of the Meridian Water Strategic Infrastructure Works (SIW). Specifically, it authorises the safe and compliant placement of waste arising from the former onsite Lee Valley Trading Estate Landfill into a designated area of the site. Alongside this, non-waste materials will be managed under the Definition of Waste Code of Practice, ensuring both systems operate efficiently and maintain separation of the waste and non-waste materials. These materials will be used to raise ground levels and establish the platform for the future development.
Securing this permit has been no small feat. It reflects many months of dedicated negotiation and consultation with the Environment Agency, who’s pro-active support has been invaluable.Deposit for Recovery Environmental Permits are challenging to obtain due to the detailed information requirements and lengthy application process, making this achievement even more impressive.
This achievement marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the project, and we look forward to collaborating with our client, Taylor Woodrow, and their consultants, Waterman Infrastructure & Environment, to deliver a sustainable and thriving new community in Enfield.
If you have any questions or opportunities related to waste permitting or land regeneration, we’d love to hear from you.
