Cognition’s New Mental Health First Aiders and Managers

13 March 2025

At the start of 2025, Cognition reviewed our internal competencies related to mental health and, although all our staff undertake the iHASCO mental health awareness course, we highlighted further areas of improvement with regards to mental health first aiders and managers in the business.

Following this review, we decided to get multiple employees trained and certified as Mental Health First Aiders and Managers through St John’s Ambulance. They were taught how to identify early signs of mental health issues and provide timely support, helping employees feel heard and valued. We are happy to share that the below personnel are competently trained and are openly available to our employees:

Mental Health First Aiders

  • Rebecca Hathaway
  • Aaliyah Brown Murphy

Mental Health Managers

  • Rob Fox
  • Charlie Jarvis
  • Jake Johnston

Mental health is crucial in the UK construction industry due to the demanding nature of the work, long hours, and physical and psychological stressors. Prioritising mental health can help reduce absenteeism, improve productivity, and create a safer, more supportive work environment, ultimately benefiting both workers and the industry. Creating an environment where mental health is openly discussed can reduce stigma, encourage employees to seek help when needed, and improve overall employee wellbeing.

Cognition has circulated a green brief throughout our offices and sites to familiarise our employees with who the Mental Health First Aiders and Managers are should they want to reach out.
