Cognition Land & Water were contracted to build the new Silvertown Tunnel Launch Chamber for the Riverlinx Joint Venture, consisting of: Ferrovial Agroman, BAM Nuttall Ltd and SK Engineering & Construction Ltd. The tunnel connects Silvertown to the Greenwich Peninsula in east London, enabling Transport for London (TfL) to provide additional cross-river bus routes.
In addition to constructing the Launch Chamber, involving mass digging of the shaft 22m deep, our scope of works included excavation in contaminated ground, RC Concrete & hydraulic prop installation, demolition, enabling works, coach park construction, highway works, remediation, and materials management and processing.
The Launch Chamber was the very first structure of its kind in the world and came with many challenges, but, in just 20 weeks, Cognition successfully supported the JV in delivering key elements of the project:
We are so proud to have been a part of this amazing project. To find out more about the works Cognition completed on the Silvertown Tunnel, please visit the following link: https://www.cognitionlandandwater.com/case-studies/SILVERTOWN-TUNNEL/
