The Further Development of Oval Village

19 May 2025

Great to see so much progress being made on this exciting project! Between 2021 and 2022, Cognition Land and Water, acting as subcontractor to Woolridge Construction, engaged in the dewatering and desludging of all the gasholders in Oval Village, the demolition of 3 of the 4 gasholders, and the dismantling of the internal elements of the remaining gasholder.

Our scope of works included:

  • Below ground demolition and above ground frame removal for Gasholders 2,4 & 5
  • Removal of internal elements and dome to gasholder 1, with guide frame remaining insitu
  • All licences and permits required for the works including MPP2 deployment form for land and ground water remediation
  • Environmental monitoring and control especially dust, odour, and Vapour/VOCs as the site is bounded by residential areas.
  • Sampling, testing, and verification reporting of gasholder remediation

Under access and method constraints, Cognition successfully cleaned the gasholders. Our ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, including regulators and the client, combined with rigorous environmental monitoring and a steadfast commitment to best practices, delivered another successfully redeveloped site back to a happy client.

We cannot wait to see how the development of Oval Village progresses in the future. Berkeley Group is carrying out the next stages of the transformation of this brownfield site. To find out more about how the project is progressing, please click here.
