In a global campaign to find the world’s greenest countries, companies and communities, Cognition Land and Water competed against more than 500 other nominations for the Green World Awards 2025. We are thrilled to announce that Cognition Land and Water has won a Gold Green World award in the sector sustainable development – carbon reduction for our work on the Barking Power Station Gas Pipeline Decommissioning Project.
On behalf of City of London Corporation, in collaboration with Lambert Smith Hampton, Cognition infilled a 19.1 km redundant gas pipeline to Barking Power Station. We proposed a low carbon grout for the pipeline infill material, saving considerable embedded carbon against the works information by incorporating secondary byproducts. The change in material composition reduced embedded carbon by 71%, saving 3,219t CO2e. The alternative material also reduced carbon within the transportation of the material. The change in delivery method reduced vehicle movements by 60%, saving a further 34t CO2e.
