In August 2018, Cognition was appointed to complete the remediation and earthworks work on a former Builders Yard, Highstreet in Godstone, Surrey. The site was being redeveloped for residential housing.
Cognition has completed the remediation works in accordance with the remediation and earthworks method statement and strategy proposed by RSK. The main elements of work included breaking and removing the existing hard surfacing and removal of all underground obstructions. As part of the excavation work Cognition successfully removed the remnant underground storage tank (UST) and completed sidewall verification sampling. Additional samples were also taken in the vicinity of former above ground storage tanks. Analysis showed that soil was free from contamination with no evidence of historic spills that could impact the wider environment or future site users. No other potential sources of contamination were discovered during the works. All areas of the site were successfully filled to desired formation levels and three large piling platforms constructed using soil stabilisation with cement.
Construction waste found buried in the South West corner of the site was excavated, processed segregated and disposed off-site under full duty of care. All site won concrete was crushed on site and reused as a wearing course for the stabilised piling platforms.
