New Arrival at Cognition Helps Achieve Zero Carbon Commitment
In 2020, Cognition adopted our Zero Carbon Policy with the aim of becoming Carbon Neutral by the end of 2021. We recently reported that, even at this early stage of the year, we have achieved that goal.
One of the ways in which we have surpassed even our own expectations in achieving Net Zero Carbon earlier than anticipated was by switching from fossil fuels to more sustainable energy sources, and replacing older equipment and company vehicles with more energy efficient models. And so to our new arrival…
We have just taken delivery of our newest Hybrid Crawler Excavator, the Komatsu HB215LC-3 Hybrid, at our the Silvertown Tunnels site in East London. Delivering the highest performance standards, the HB215LC-3 offers significant fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions, increased production, improved control, first class operator comfort, intelligent safety features, the latest telematics, advanced hydraulics and the new Komatsu Integrated Attachment Control system. Some clever features of the hybrid system include the electric swing motor-generator, which captures and regenerates energy as the upper structure slows down and converts it into electric energy, which is stored for later use.
Additionally, a wide range of safety features on the machine fit nicely with our ‘Safety at our Core’ programme and work in synergy to minimise risks to people in and around the machine.
This excavator truly raises the bar in terms of energy efficiency and carbon reduction and is the first in our proposed fleet of hybrid and all-electric plant, equipment and company vehicles. In fact, we understand that this is the first of these hybrid powered excavators to be used anywhere in the UK!
